George was our neighbor who would come over and lend moral support. Unfortunately he passed away earlier this year at age 78. Son immediately name the truck George and he came up with the plan for the plate...........kind brings a tear to your eye when your son comes up with some thing like that......
In Penna. we only have a plate on the rear. We got new plates soon after I painted my truck, so I have one on the front also (Don;t know if it is legal). You would be surprised how many people ask me what year the truck is when they are within sight of the front or rear plates!!
I'm considering 1SIK 56 or 1SLK 56.
NC is pretty liberal as to what you can have on personalized plates: any character that a typewriter can type including spaces up to 7 digits. The extra fee goes for flowers and plantings along the highways.
In Maryland if you have historic registration, you can run with the historic tags (just a regular tag with the word "historic" at the bottom) or you can put on a pair of plates that are correct from your year. I found a pair of vintage '53 tags that were nearly mint condition. By paying a $25 fee and filing a form, I now have the right to run with either set of tags with no limitation to parades or anything. (I just have to keep the new tags with the current stickers inside the truck).
Here in California it's called YOM or Year of Make, in order to use the type Plates that were originally issued on the truck when the "Olde Girl" first sold.
JGURLAND, I think Md also has a ''street rod'' tag for pre-48's. BTW, I grew up (?) in Laurel, lived in Bowie and Huntingtown before moving to Az 10 years ago to work for Arizona Rods and Customs. Still stay in touch with friends in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Silver Spring
I don't have one for my 56 M-100 yet but I'm looking for Kansas tags from 1956 to put on it, I'm going to buy a few and try to tig them together to make T1956 and T 56 paint them up and go to DMV and run them. I had one for my 29 Model A roadster GOTOPLS, and my 37 tudor was 37 HUMP and they were both sold to build shop and a shed now all I need to do is build something new.
Actually "FTFNDR" got voted down last night by the wifey for that very reason!
My wifes Explorer says "1USGIRL" you should see the surprised look on some peoples face when I'm driving, especially guys that speed up to take a look!
