I have a line on a 1999 Crew Cab 4x4 short box that is loaded. V10 with 4.30 gears. It has 129,000 kms (80,000 +/- miles). Is this a decent truck. Asking price is around $23,000. If this truck is in good condition does it sound like a keeper. Anyone have any input?
Zip I picked up a 99 SC Superduty 4x4 3.73 gears long box for half that price. I kinda wish that i new about this site before i did, not saying that i dont enjoy my truck but one of those 3v's would be nice. My truck has 154 k on her tho so maybe thats the diff???? If you like the truck go for er. Just do some reading here b4 u do it so u know what ur in for (blown plugs)
Good Luck!
i have to agree with the others that price is way to stiff for a 99 and the miles? well that nothing for one of these motors if it's cared for properly.
good luck
Yeh, I'd say the same as the rest, keep looking as many people are quite uninformed about the great V10 and sell them cheap as everyone has this misconseption of them being fuel pigs. If I remember right a fellow V10er just pickup and 03' with like 30k miles for around $18k, although that seemd like a great deal but you should easily be able to find a 02' or so for that same price with quite a few less miles.
Agreeing with everyone else, try to stay away from the 99 and 2000 V10s as they have had problems with spark plug blow outs. Plus the 00-04 V10s have more power than the 99 V10s. If you can afford it, get an 05 or 06 3V V10 but if you can't, try to find one with a 4.30 rear end.
I paid $10.9k for my 99 SD, SC, LB, 4x4, V-10. with 110k miles in January of 05. $23k sounds very steep to me. I took me a while to find it, but it was worth saving the money.
Thanks for the input guys. This seems to be the going price around here in my part of Canada. The guy says the truck has every option and is in fantastic condition. I plan on going to take a look at it this weekend, so hopefully the guy is being straight with me. I guess we will see. One of you guys could always try to sneak one across the border for me.
I guess you were talking 23k candian dollars then. I live in the coal fields of Kentucky where diesel is king. The reason being most coal company employees buy the diesels and then just fill them up with off road diesel, with the rest of the mining equipment. If you work for a big coal company you will get to fill your truck up free a couple of times per week. 40 gallons is nothing compared to what some of the larger loaders and dozers use. Several local gas stations even have #2 diesel pumps off to the side next to kerosene where you can just pull your truck up and fill it up no questions ask.
I have noticed after looking around some that used V-10s seem to run cheaper here than most places.
A local dealer here has an 02 extened 4x4 v-10 with 71,000 miles he will let go for 16,250. I test drove it myself. I ended up paying 15,000 for an 03 crew 4x4 with 66,000 miles from a private seller. Both of these trucks are xlt trim. If you ever come to the US shop around. Used v-10's can be a pretty good value. At least in my area.
