I tried searching but came up empty on my search.
My battery drains too often and I know i shouldn't expect the battery to remain charged while cranking out some tunes with the engine off. Now with that beign said, I'm looking into replacing the factory battery with a Optima YEL34/78 deepcycle battery. Does anyone have experience with this type of battery?
If you're gonna be cranking the tunes for a while with engine off, run a charger to keep your battery charged if feasible. You can't pull more power out of a battery than you put into it, regardless.
Be careful of leaving your batteries in a partially discharged state. The plates disintegrate over time if not kept fully charged and ultimately ends with an accelerated loss of capacity and decreased ability to hold a charge. Deep discharge batteries are designed to over come this, but are not immune to the same.
yes i would recommend a yellow top optima. these are really nice batteries. i can run my stereo for 30 min with my red top (2 amps, lots of current draw)
You should seriously consider a dual battery setup. Very easy to install with a kit from www.wranglernw.com. Then you can run two Optima Yellow Tops. There kit is nice, because in normal mode you run the batteries in paralel, but they include a switch that lets you isolate the second battery when you want to. I paid $400 for the kit for my 04 Expy. They include everything you need, right down to the zip ties, except the batteries of course.
