I am still in the rebuilding process...motor, tranny, rear axle. etc but the Amsoil synthetic oil line caught my eye. I started looking at the product line which is much larger than expected and sounds good.
Question...anyone have first hand experience with the Amsoil products and can testify if $ savings are really possible or not. The products are very expensive and there must be competitve products too.

Thanks John, I found lots of interesting reading on oils, etc and the AMsoil info is particularly interesting. I am not a dealer, was looking at becoming one but after learning more have decided not to pursue that. I think I will try Mobil 1.
The VW TDI guys (I'm one of them too) seem to agree that Delvac is the best. But, it can be argued that a low-stress gas engine doesn't need such oil and that you're wasting money you could use for gas.

[b]DO NOT PUT SYNTHETIC OIL IN A NEWLY REBUILT MOTOR!!! WILL NOT SEAT THE RINGS CAUSE THERE WILL NOT BE ENOUGH LOAD ON THEM WITH THE SLICK SYNTHETIC OIL. TRUST ME HERE BUDDY. MY BROTHER DID IT WITH A 360 FORD. ANOTHER REBUILD WAS THE EFFECT OF THE SYNTHETIC OIL.
