I have a 2001 F250 7.3 4R100. The otherday I must have gotten some bad diesel as the engine started running rough. I stopped shut off the engine and checked the oil. It was down approx 1 1/2 qts. Also drained fuel filter water valve. Then changed the fuel filter. Restarted and since then everything is running great. This has been probably 200 miles ago. When all this happened, the Service Engine Soon light came on and is still on. I checked the owners manual and my understanding is that it should reset itself after 5 cold starts, but it's still on.
What is tour experience with this? Should I try disconnecting the battery cables to reset?

Your best course of action is to get the truck scanned for the codes that are stored. Then you will be able to know what the problem is and fix it.
