My 2002 explorer 4x4 4.0 service engine soon light came on, had my wife take it the autozone and came up P0461, fuel level sending unit, the explorer runs fine and guage has been working, anything else to check or should i just replace it before problems start!
You could try a bottle of Techron Fuel System additive that specifically mentions that it conditions the fuel level sensor. I've heard it's pretty successful at fixing several of the common GM fuel level sensor issues.

Go into the HEC self test and look at the FLI values. Compare them to the gauge reading and to the FLI PIDs.
A P0461 is a code for a "noisy" fuel level sensor. That is, the value changes much more rapidly and frequently than the PCM has calculated it should.
I am gonna try some of the Fuel Additive, last night i went out and messed with it after researching a little more and removed and reapplied the fuel cap and then unhooked the battery to see if it would reset, i fired it up and the light went out. I will see if it stays out when i drive to work tomorrow or not and go from there! Thank You for the suggestions so far.
