Favorite beer?
But WAIT! There is life after Lager. Ale is the way my thirsty pal. I love Vermont Ales - most of you will have to work to get them but it's worth it.
Switchback is very nice
The Shed Mountain Ale is 8.5% a.b.v I think, you can taste the alcohol
Trout River Chocolate Oatmeal Stout is fun for desert
Long Trail ale is my summer regular
Long Trail Hibernator is friggin' awsome! My life sucks when I can't get it. Do yourself a big favor, skip the national brands and experiment with micro ales. I can't drink Bud anymore.
Outside of Vermont:
N.H. has a great micro called Smutty Nose with an Old Dog Brown Ale and a nice smoked porter.
Trust me on this: anything by Dogfish Head Brewery (Delaware) I especially like the Chickory Stout and Raison D'Etre.

You hit the nail on the head with Dogfish too. The Raison was one of the last ones I tried from there. We have a liquor store near me that went from standard beer store to micro-brew extrordinaire...they just added a few other fridge cases too. The guy who runs it is a Dogfish head too, and managed to set it up so you can mix and match 6 packs. I forget the name of the one (it was awhile ago...maybe 120 minute IPA?) but it was kick your butt hardcore, and poured out of the bottle like motor oil. It was good, but not something you're going to drink more than one or two of. Awesome to hear it makes it up there.
Do you guys get Yuengling too?

An old friend of mine from S. FL got some Dogfish Head Chickory Stout from her in-laws who were visiting from MD. So I knew of it before I moved to VT in Y2K. I find it here, even on tap in a few places. BTW: a Dogfish is a kind of shark. A "head", in this case, is a peninsula like Nag's Head in Carolina. Dogfish Head is a place in Maine where the brewers family had a summer cabin. This brewer has gotten a LOT of awards and positive press, so it's not just me. I'm proud that I was able to instantly identify this as a great beer myself, only to have it confirmed years later.
I'll look for Yeunging next time I'm at the 1001 brews store down the road. Thx!

Also close by is Flying Fish and Yards. Yards (N.E. Philadelphia) seems to be hop-happy, so I'm not normally a fan, but Flying Fish (South Jersey) has a wide variety of flavors.
In my travels, I remember really liking one of the Long Trail brews I had. What was the name of that bar? Just outside of Smuggler's Notch, like walking distance from our lodge, and we were there for "Spamski"...4 women in bright colored latex miniskirts, one in all black, and tray fulls of or-derves (sp?) made from Spam. Needless to say, there was a lot of things going on in that bar, so my mind only made it as far as "this is a good beer".
Goose Island out of Chicago was very good too.

Before you order a drink in public, you should read this!
Seven New York City bartenders were asked if they could nail a woman's personality based on what she drinks. Though interviewed separately, they concurred on almost all counts.
The results:
Drink: Beer
Personality: Causal, low-maintenance; down to earth.
Your Approach: Challenge her to a game of pool.
Drink: Blender Drinks
Personality: Flaky, whiny, annoying; a pain in the ***.
Your Approach: Avoid her, unless you want to be her cabana boy.
Drink: Mixed Drinks
Personality: Older, more refined, high maintenance, has very picky taste; knows EXACTLY what she wants.
Your Approach: You won't have to approach her. If she's interested, she'll send YOU a drink..................
Drink: Wine (does not include White Zinfandel)
Personality: Conservative and classy; sophisticated yet giggles.
Your Approach: Tell her you love to travel and spend quiet evenings with friends.
Drink: White Zinfandel
Personality: Easy; thinks she is classy and sophisticated, actually, she has NO clue.
Your Approach: Make her feel smarter than she is...this should be an easy target.
Drink: Shots
Personality: Likes to hang with frat-boy pals and looking to get
totally drunk... and naked.
Your Approach: Easiest hit in the joint. You have been blessed. Nothing to do but wait, however, be careful not to make her mad!
Drink: Tequila
No explanations required - everyone just KNOWS what happens there.
THEN, there is the MALE addendum ----
The deal with guys is, as always, very simple and clear cut:
Domestic Beer: He's poor and wants to get laid.
Imported Beer: He likes good beer and wants to get laid.
Wine: He is hoping that the wine will give him a sophisticated image to help him get laid.
Whiskey: He doesn't give a damn about anything but getting laid.
Tequila: He is thinking he has a chance with the toothless waitress.
White Zinfandel: He's gay!
Get away from that over produced, over marketed beer such as Bud or Coors.
This is made locally and probably out sells any big beer in my area. We love it here.
It is made by West End Brewery.
OK, I'll have a Killians now and then. And if I'm in New Orleans I'll have a Dixie, just because... And if you're in Barbados you got to drink Banks. Tuckerman's from NH is pretty good. If you're in Ireland a cold Smithwicks goes down pretty easy (be sure to ask for a "smitty's" though). And of course, being free makes even crappy beer taste better...
But aside from those, Guinness.
