Talking Steam Cleanin'

The Awesome will get that crud off with the first application. DO NOT get it on black plastic, it will discolor it.

That's good to know. I've never let it dry. Spray it, soak about 5 minutes and rinse. I also only wash a cold engine, I don't ever warm it up first.

What do you use now instead of simple green?

I didn't mean I let it dry and then rinsed. I let it sit for 5min and rinsed it off. And it still gave me the white haze. And I'm like you, the motor was cold. As far as what I use now.............awww I ain't gonna lie, I haven't washed the engine compartment since then. But I don't run up and down dirt roads every day and it doesn't get real dirty. And (knock on wood) I don't really have any bad oil leaks. But when I do wash it again, I will for sure try something else and let yall know how it came out.

If you rinse it off really good and then spray it all over with WD-40 before it dries, it helps to eliminate that white haze and it makes everything real nice and shiny. I watch for the gallons of WD-40 to be on sale and get a couple of them. You can also use it from the plastic pump sprayer to help start an engine although the aerosol cans help start an engine better.

WD-40 will eat belts and hoses. Plus dust will stick to it. If you don't go off paved roads that may not be a big deal. I live on a gravel road so WD is out. As is Armor All.

spray that stuff on there let it sit for 5 mins and then presser wash it. or get a garden hose and just let it run on the engine for like 5 mins to wash everything off. then you wont get the white stuff.

It can discolor aluminum, kinda like an acid based wheel cleaner can if you leave it on too long. If you get it a nice and uniform discoloration, however, it would look fine!

Whatever you spray it on will come clean, however, you should work with it quickly. Rubber gloves, eyeglasses, scrub brush, parts cleaner brush and then plenty of fresh, clean water. Use it quickly and get it off quickly and thoroughly. It cuts through stuff but it is acidic and will keep eating away at whatever it is on.

That is a big 10-4!
Mine died due to apparent moisture buildup. It happened last winter when snow lay on the hood and melted in the sun. Because of the angle at which I was parked and the frozen snow underneath the melting snow, it couldn't run off normally (think ice dam on your roof) and trickled back under the hood and ran down the fender wall to the IDM. It doesn't take much moisture to kill those, and they are not cheap.
After replacing the IDM, I ran a bead of caulk along the top edge and firewall edge of the unit to preven further water infiltration.
