I have been given a gift of a 1977 F150 which belonged to a friend's father. The truck has been sitting for a while and will need some work to get going again.
The VIN is F15JLY164xx of which I understand the 4th letter, or "J", is the engine code. Can anyone tell me which engine this truck has as indicated by the "J"? I'ts one of the V-8s, but I'm not familiar enough with Fords to tell what it is by sight alone and I couldn't find any stickers or anything else indicating which engine it has.
Also, is there any problem areas I should watch out for with this vintage of Ford pickup? I haven't owned a Ford since my '62 Falcon back in high school ('69-70).
Hey, thanks for the info, John. I checked the VIN finder and it looks like I've got a 460 (Wow!) with a C6 and a 3.25 limited slip rear end. Now, if I can just find the time amongst work, home and all other projects to get it running and streetable. Looks like we might be burning some gas!
