Hello all
My 2001 V-10 4x4 CC could use more torque and better shifting points.I have 33in tires and 3.73 factory gears.I know a Oil burner would solve this but for now the 10 will half to do.I already did the unrestricted y pipe and a flowmaster 40 with the K+n air filter.Would a programmer be the way to go.Any input would be great.
Gears seems like the logical way to go but im not shure how long i will be keeping the truck for and the cheapest improvement would be the best.I have heard people talk highly of the tuners. If a tuner will improve torque safely and adjust shift points i will try it.If tuners arent that good i probably will go with gears.By the way, where did you get your gears?
My Superchips adjusted shift points nicely but I didn't think the the torque was much improved and in performance mode you have to use preimum gas..
I got the gears from a local transmission shop - they ordered them.
If you're outside the power band of the engine (you are), a tuner won't help you much... it'll just add some torque to an already bad situation. You're lugging everything quite a bit, putting more resistance against the transmission than it's used to having. Spend the money and get your gearing revised to a higher ratio (4.30?) and then worry about performance mods.
I agree with everyone else. Gears would be the better choice since you are outside of the V10's powerband. Go to at least 4.30s. 4.56s would be your personal choice. If you do alot of highway driving, go 4.30s. If its mainly city driving, go with the 4.56s. Either way, the gears will show a bigger torque increase than a tuner would.
