which block?
I am looking for a block to build a 408 engine for circle track racing. Which is a good 351w block that will hold up, withstand the quick on and off the throttle, make some power?
Thank you

Next, to answer your question, Ford does offer some short and long block remanufactured engines. I guess the advantage to these is that all the core shifting (if it actually does shift) has already taken place. However, the sportsmans block that you are talking about is new and is available from your participating Ford dealership. (Not all of them participate in the Motorsport catalog ordering) My latest catalog shows eight different 351 blocks available, some of them are for windsor cranks some cleveland. The block you are intersted in starts at about $1300......Still interested?
BTW, Dart makes some aftermarket 351 blocks also. I believe Jeg's speed catalog has them and they are over $2K. Howver, you can probably get by with a factory 351 block. They will hold together better than a lot of factory Chevy small blocks. My $.02.
