Where do I find VIN# on a 1953 F-100? ... DMV won't register!

Hello,

A friend purchased a 1953 F-100 recently.

In trying to register it at the DMV in Connecticut, the DMV would not finalize the inspection/registration because they didn't see a VIN tag displayed on the vehicle and didn't know where to find it.

Is there a statndard place we should be looking for the VIN?

Thanks!

Not sure on the 53 but my 51-F1 has the number stamped on the passenger side top frame rail just in front of the front shock.

Hope this helps

Look on the top of the front cross member near the drivers side (good for 53-54)
55-56 are located on the top of the frame opposite the steering box

The VIN should also be on a data plate that is screwed to the inside of the glove box door. George has a decoder on his "Earl's World" website.

There have been many discussions of where the numbers are to be stamped on the frame, and the above suggestions are a good place to start. Don't be surprised if you find it anywhere along the top of the frame, anywhere forward of the firewall. It seems that different plants may have stamped them in different places.
Good Luck!

Good luck finding the VIN. My 53 doesn't have one on the frame anywhere. I have sandblasted the frame and it is not there. I will stamp it in before final paint.

53-56 can be ON the front x-member or the pass side frame rail anywhere between the crossmember and the firewall. Very often they are not stamped too deeply.

Mine is on the plate on the glove box door and stamped on top of the passenger side frame rail just in front of the fire wall. 1955 F100. I had to clean a little dirt and paint to find the one on the frame.

I'm in CT too, about to register my F-5, VIN is stamped on the drivers frame rail, top channel, in the middle from the fire wall and rad. support. Vin matches the one on the glove box too. (built in Somerville MA).
What hoops / paperwork do you need in CT?

Just a reminder that over the years many cabs and frames have been swapped and the tag on the glove box/door post may not reflect the actual number stamped on the frame.

Goood luck
