39.5's are BIG tires for a D44. You really ought to look for a D60. That WILL be money well spent. Try and talk somebody down on the price for one.
Ideally, for heavy playing you want to stick to 35's or less on a D44, 37's can be gotten away with if you are very careful with how you wheel (IE pick lines vs just throttling over stuff).
If I can't find a high pinion axle, i have an idea to kick around. Are the carriers the same on the F-250 D44 and the F-150 D44? if they are besides the spring perch could a guy take the tubes off the F-250 axle and put them on the F-150 Carrier and weld a spring perch next to it? I haven't measured anything yet, or looked at my axle, I'm not at home right now but any comments?

I'll second that
On one of my projects I originally went with a Dana 44 HP, and after a few months I broke a axle joint. Replaced the shaft assembly with another I had laying around, then next trip out it broke again. So I spent $1300 for CTM's and Warn axleshafts and it has solved the axle/U joint breaking problem. For the $1300 I spent on that I could have bought a Dana 60 right from the beginning and still had stronger nuckles and a 5000 pound axle rating.
