Well, as of today I have determined that the lift, 35's, and the spool are coming off of my truck. I've had a great time with it over the past two years and have learned alot from here, but priorites change
It's staying 4x4 and is going to have 31's or 32's, so all hope is not lost, but it has come to where I'm going to have to make the truck my "fuel economical vehicle".
I just picked up a 1967 Thunderbird 390 suicide door. Somehow I see this car never getting more than 10 or 12 MPG, but know my truck got 20+ before the tires and lift.
Anyway, i'm not out of 4x4's or anything like that, i've just decided it's time to build something that has a very distinct possibility of being very fast and looking quite classy while doing so.
I'll be selling off a 4/6" TTB lift (front only), a rebuilt solid D44 with 4.11's and radius arms, and the tires. Tires are sold, lift is tentatively, and the axle is open for offers.
I understand what he's going through. A guy at church has an all original 67 (I'm pretty sure) Thunderbird that is in virtually PERFECT shape. It only has like 40k original miles on it, it stays in his basement. 390, cruise-o-matic, everything. Best part - he let me DRIVE it. Got to drive it to Unionville, MO and back to his place (about a half hour both ways). The steering wheel played back and forth, and on minor lane changes the tires would lift up and bark at you, and sure the brakes were touchy - but it was an AWESOME experience. Did I mention the original paint is perfect except for ONE rock chip on the front, and its like a salmon pink with a white top of some material? It's a grabber.
His exhaust manifold is cracked on one side, so I need to find some used 390 headers for him to get put on it. Man...that is an awesome car...
20 isn't hard, my 89 300/5-speed with 3.08's and stock size tires got 20 on the highway, 19 total was the best I ever did but that included a bit of gravel and town driving on top of the highway. I'd imagine with the right rear gears the 300 could have gotten a little further into the low 20's.
No cheap headers? Pah...that's not cool. I was hoping to offer him a cheap present of used headers.
