If I had the money...I would consider the D44 for my '97.
Oh but didn't you know only wussies use D44 front axles cause they are such a wimpy axle. I mean if you have any more power than a lawn mower they won't last 3 passes.
Oh wait I have a D44 but hten again my engine is a time bomb just waiting to go off so it's ok.
LMAO! You'll be doing well to get that kind of mileage from a T-Bird.
I had a '64, buried the speedo a time or two. One of the kids in the back seat had to tell me, I was focused the vanishing point. I think it had highway gears: 0 to 35 mph it was a dog, hit 35 and it was gone. Met a few Cops while driving that car, not too many longhairs in town driving one. LOL
They are fun to cruise: Push a button, the window opens and some girl is looking inside: "I'm lost" was always a good ice-breaker, even if they knew it was a lie. Seems like some of the wilder rides were with the motor off...LOL
The speedo was accurate before tires and lift, isn't now but I clocked it between milemarkers. it went from 20 on the interstate down to 10 or 11.
I'm hoping to get 10 out of this thunderbird. I finally got it running last night and it consumed 1/2 gallon of gas in the 5 minutes i ran it to set the carburetor and timing.
took my camera with me, but as soon as i turned it on the batteries died
And I know there's no gas leak right now. I have a 20 ounce coke bottle sitting on the hood gravity feeding into the carb. so yeah, pretty sure there's no gas leak.
But i figure once i get it to quit detonating (more on that in a little), get it timed, and get the carb set it should improve considerably.
About the detonation:
So i'm sitting there dumping fuel down the carb as i crank this thing over. It huffs and puffs and fires as i crank it, but dies as soon as I quit. So I keep cranking it. It cranks and cranks, and I finally get it sounding like it's running on all 8, so i quit cranking and it immediately proceeds to die on me
So I go through, make sure firing order is correct, make sure it's timed close enough to get it started, make sure i'm not 180 out, all that stuff and it still won't keep running once i quit cranking.
So I stepped back to think about it.
What could it be?
Then it hit me.
I climbed back into the car and looked at the key. It was straight up and down. It was off. There was NO POWER to the coil and it was still firing as i cranked it. This cold motor that hadn't run in two years was compression igniting regular fuel.
Turned the key on, cranked it at the solenoid, and it fired right up. I retarded the timing until it quit detonating (it'll barley run now) and shut it off. I'm going to tune it next week after i pick up 2 gallons of 114 leaded from home.
