I am doing the base/clear painting on my 78 F150 SB in steps. I have done the cab shell, doors, & fenders. they turned out awesome. My first question is since the truck has been sitting in the garage it has collected a layer of dust, will it most likely come off easily when I wash the entire cab the first time, and secondly I have just finished the hood, wetsanded, buffed and polished it, but I have noticed a few spots that didnt turn out as nice as the rest of the cab originally did, similiar marks that I had buffed out of the doors and fenders, can I rebuff and polish the hood? I planned on repolishing the entire cab after I get it sealed up and washed the first time, need to get windsheilds, weatherstripping, etc. installed. then giving the old girl a real good first wax job. thank you for your help guys.
Yes, you can re-eveything if you like. Just don't cut through the clear. I like to wet sand the clear with a 2000 grit before I buff anyways. Clear is very forgiving so long as theres enough of it left to work with.
BTW-Be sure you don't put any wax on that clear for 2 months after you spray. It takes it that long to cure.
thanks Mat-Helm, I finished with a 1500 grit, like all the other panels, because I sanded it the day after I sprayed and the 3m compound I used said it would take out 1200 grit sandmarks. I sprayed 5 heavy coats of clear, so I should have plenty. I was just leary of buffing over what I had polished, but now that I think about it, I will be fine. thanks again.
