I am wondering if there's any connection between my dome light problems (2 years old) and the third brake light and reverse lights at the top of the cab staying on all the time (3 months old). To an uneducated Ranger owner like myself, they seem to be the same problem. But I can't imagine the WD40 trick will help the brake and reverse lights. I need those to work to pass the inspection.
Thanks for any help.
Sounds like you may have three separate problems here.
If the dome light remains on, after closing the door, (assuming you haven't accidently switched it "on" with the dash dimmer switch) then WD-40 sprayed into the door latch area & the door closed & opened several times might unstick the switch plunger & fix it.
The brake lights remaining on, might be another poblem, (assuming no one has done any funky wiring & tapped into this circuit by mistake) maybe something like a stuck BOO (Brake On Off) switch on the brake master cylinder.
So you could try tapping on it & see if you can wake it up, or disconnecting it & see if the brake lights go out.
The backup lights remaining on, could be a stuck or misadjusted switch on the transmission.
Which tranny do you have in your ride, manual or automatic????
