1999 f250 cc, darn door ajar light wont go away, and dome and bed lights stays on, but I realized that once I turn the head lights on door ajar light goes away and dome and bed lights turns off, kind of odd.
I tried W-D40 , finished whole can of w-d40 still no luck, any suggestions, since there are 4 doors, what would be the best way the find which door is the problem one? or what else could be the problem since door ajar light goes away when I turn lights on?
By the way I have after market alarm.
I use elecrical contact cleaner-hold the door opener and work the latching mechanism by putting a screwdriver in the v and working it as if the door were opening and closing, This method waS SHOWN ME BY MY FORD TECH AND it has worked on each of several super duty and excursion vehicles I have owned,
I had the same problem with my 99 f350 and I solved it with that spay on cooking oil,"PAM". I did it twice and my problem has been solved for about 2 years now. Just my $0.02!
Don't limit the soaking with WD-40 to only the door that you think it is. Soak all the door catches. I thought it was the drives door and it turned out to be the rear drivers side door instead. Spray them and then open and close them a bunch of times. It usually works.

Well after spraying 2 cans of w-d40, can of electronic part cleaner, can of engine degreaser, and some other cleaning solvent I have a spotless door latches and they look great, but problem is still there darn door ajar light won’t go away.
NOW every time I open my rear doors, the taillights fuse gets blown, no lights in my instrument cluster, unless I put a new fuse.
This thing is driving me crazy … no w-d40 is not working, yes I took it to mechanic, after an hour of trouble shooting no result.

WOW, It has to be wiring crossed up somewhere but I don't know where. Maybe in the fuse panel? It's time to start unplugging wires to try to isolate the problem. Any way, I'll bump it back to the top for you.
Joe
my suggestion would be unplugging the power and ground to the switch in the door
having no tailights is not safe, for you or anyone else
not a permanent solution but safer than now
True I dont have time to take it anywhere today, but I changed the fuse again and I'm not going to use the rear doors till I find out what would cause tailights to go out, I need to find that if rear door switches share the same fuse for taillights and speedometer.
My first question would be: What changed from when I WAS working correctly and when it wasn't? Did you (or someone else) change any wiring from stock? Was it working ok when YOU bought the truck? I'd then go back to before things went south and figure from there.... with electrical problems, it's hard enough to repair when you can work on it, much more difficult working on it from afar!!!
