does anyone know what the core on a bad 7.3 is? its all there but in a bit of bad shape. its a 94 f 350 4x4 (non turbo) and i bought it as a parts truck (havent went and picked it up yet). the guy put brand new heads on it a few weeks ago and drove it to and from, the all of a sudden the oil plug came out and the motor came to a stop. heres the catch, they took it home and got it to run again. then they pulled the oil pan down some and looked at the front main. says the bearing has noticeably spun. didnt put the bearing cap back on, but says if he had i could even hear it run (although that wouldnt be too good for it). so what do you suppose its worth at a salvage yard (the motor not whole truck)? thanks
if it didnt run toooo long--even if the main spun--a new bearing may be allright--why--because the 6.9 and the 7.3 blocks are harder than h-----may just have flattened the ear of the bearing--course will have to clean the crank
well since i havent picked up the truck yet i havent had a chance to pull the motor and take a look. here's another question, this 7.3 does not have a turbo, can i install a turbo off the later 7.3? and if so, what do i need to make the conversion? turbo, exhaust/intake manifold?, oil port and line, computers? thanks for the info.
The turbo off the 93 or 94 IDI motor will bolt right up.
Power Stroke turbos will not.
Pull the Y pipe off the NA motor, the air filter, the oil sending unit, #7 cylinder fuel line and the CDR valve.
Then you start bolting the turbo back on the engine.
The stock downpipe is not really worth reinstalling with the turbo, you can contact www.atsturbo.com and get a 3" outlet flange and 3" downpipe for a much better system.
The engine will be around 1000 pounds.

Mileage on the engine would be a factor, whether PO used SCAs would be another. With a known bad bearing, there will be extra services needed after repair ie oil cooler disassembly and cleaning. Since you are in USA I would hazard a guess of $500-800 for value. You may only get 2 heads and an injection pump, but you could get a heck of a deal too.
