keyboard question
Can anyone tell me why when I attempt to use the backslash on my keyboard it comes up as é, and my question mark is É my quotation marks are È. Do I have a French virusÉ.

That is kind of funny. I have a friend that moved to Brazil and I speak with him regularly via a messenger service. His computer crashed and he had to bring it in to the shop and the only programs available were in Portuguese and his keyboard does similar stuff. He has learned what each key does by now, but it was interesting and quite amusing to talk with him right after his computer was back from the shop, it prompted both of us to go out and buy headphones and use the call service.

Regional settings
Thanks for the reply Bogstandard, I changed the settings from Canada to United States, No change éÉÈ".
Iam starting to wonder if it is my keyboard
I can get quotaion marks if I use the 'greater than' and "less than" key
this is what I get with the right parenthasis ç Ç

Check the Languages Tab, then Select details. This will open up detailed settings.
Under the installed services verify that the keyboard is set to english.
Also there are Key setting preferences. Make sure they are not set.

i would try renaming the windows profile so it can create new one, this is location if you have xp at C:\documentsandsettings\(yourloginname)\
so if you were going to rename it for example you would go like this:
login to administrator account by pressing ctrl atl del del and type your main accounts password or no password if it has not been set and login is administrator.
C:\documentsandsettings\loginname.old. This will fool your Os and create a new windows profile when you login to that screen name. if problem persists, then reinstall keyboard drivers...
