I know my local auto parts store recycles used oil, but what do people do with used coolant?
Do they need to be in containers or can I pour out my collection container into some big collection vat at the appropriate place?
Seriously, I've always mixed it in with my used motor oil and recycled it tht way. I don't think they really like you doing it that way but, most of this oil is recycled by using it as a fuel oil for refinery furnaces and they have a decanter to pull out the water from the oil and they will slop the glycol.
Around here the water company runs a hadzardous waste collection- You can bring them anything (and I mean ANYTHING) and they'll get rid of it for FREE. Used oil, coolent, light bulbs, paint (thinners), kerosene, etc. They would rather pay to get rid of it than pay to clean it out of the water. You could look something like that up in your phonebook, or call your town/county.
We can recycle our used oil and antifreeze at the county dump. They've set up separate collection tanks for both. As CTFord suggests call your local muncipality and find out what they have available.
check your local laws. many offer free disposal of coolant. i got rid of 150 gallons of it along with oil and brake fluid at no charge to me, other than the 15 min drive to there.
