My Mitsubishi tranny(187,000 miles) ocassionaly pops out of 1st. and 5th. I have it out for a clutch/throw out brg./slave cyl. job and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about the popping out of gear prob. I can feel 1 to 2 m/m axial play at the end of the input shaft and I expect the problem is a combo. of wear on the undercut of the gears and play at the input and intermediate shafts. I could go with a front bearing kit from Parts America that lists for around $80 or a master rebuild kit from Trans Doctor for around $190
My question is, has anyone experienced the popping out of gear prob. and does anyone think that installing one or the other kit might help?
I don't have a problem with buying and installing these parts, although getting them down here to Costa Rica is another matter.
Thanks,
Gary

I have not had that problem but have read several other sites where it is a problem. Most are doing just like yours and the advise to fix it is a rebuild kit. I do not remember right off hand what the exact problem was but i will search for it and relay it to you.
Sounds like the input is shot and you have sincro problems, from what you described things are just worn out. This is a common issue on a tranny in need of a rebuild,Popping out of gear is a pretty normal in a FM 146 in need of work.
