The sending unit should just unscrew, a 12 point wrench or deep socket should get it. There should be fittings and adapters with the new gauge. If the sending unit is origional you might have to get mean with a pair of vice grips or something. Gook luck, Billemc

Should have a hexagon type of metal at the base of the original oil sender unit which a wrench can attach to unscrew the unit, the oil sending unit is attached above the oil filter adapter unit. Make sure to use teflon tape on threads, when installing the new oil adapter unit.

Try some good penetrating lube, and if that dosen't work, get some mechanix gloves, let the truck get to temperature, and try it then. you may burn the crap out of your hands, but it'll expand the hole, maybe enough to pull the sending unit.

Put some penetating oil like amish77 mentioned. The place the wrench on unit, and hit the wrench at the end with a solid hammer, in the counter clock wise direction. This might jar it loose.

Nut and Washers ? Forgive me if I am wrong, but there should not be any nut and washers. Are you working on the right thing. The Oil Sensor should have a metal base with a plastic top, and small brass stud coming out the top, and have a single wire connector that pushes over this stud. I forget the size, but they make a special socket with 12 points just for pulling these out. It is around a 1 inch socket. It should be a simple process of unscrewing it with the socket. I have never seen one stuck and not move. Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of is your trying to remove a block heater that goes in a Freeze Plug Hole.

I have seen some old sensors that had a 5/16 nut and washer on them. If this is the case, then under the bell part of the sensor next to the block, they have a square part that a 9/16 wrench will slip over. Sometimes they are hard to get a wrench on, but it can be done. Turn it in a counter clockwise rotation and un screw it.

i am working on the right thing. the nut and washers are on the brass stud. then the little boot slips on to the stud. so i took those off and tried unscrewing the bell part and it turns but just keeps turning and not coming off. so now what?

It's hard to see, but under the bell shaped top of the oil sending unit, and above the threaded part is a 9/16 hex, get out your open ended 9/16 wrench and turn ccw. Plan B, take out a big hammer, smack it till it breaks off the sender and stem. Remove the end of the broken stem with an easy out. Install gauge fittings and line. DO NOT USE PLASTIC! Go to your local hardware or parts store and get copper tubing...DAHMER

Clean and scrape at the base of the oil sending unit with a thin small screw driver, you should notice the 9/16" hex nut at the base of the oil sending unit. Sometimes it hard to see because of the power steering pump and fuel pump location.
