I would sure like to find one of these adpaters. I have one that I moved from another car, and it needs to be retuned, but I lost the instructions how how to do the tuning, and the SWR is horrible with the settings from the last installation. I realize you don't get the best performance, but for car caravans it works fine.

Anyone have a location to get this from? I've looked all over the web and turned up nothing, but a few people remembering the unit but no current suppliers. The unit I am looking for will allow the existing AM/FM antenna to be shared by the stock radio and the CB.

JC Whitney is where the guy I know got his too. It was a few years ago so I dont remember how we tuned it. I think there were 2 little screws on it. Seems like you'd only need one though. Turn it one way would be like extending the antenna in its mount, turn it the other way would be like lowering it. Sorry, cant remember.

Bingo! It is item number ZX039185X on the JCWhitney web site. $16.99. I'll have to get one of these and check it out. I realize the performance will suffer from a dedicated CB antenna, and yes I have a ham license so I do know the difference It is just so convenient for closer range talking to my non-ham caravan buddies.

Is there an antenna that would mount accross from the radio antenna that would give decent performance? This would give a "balanced" look and would not have to be removed.

I use 2m/440 with a diamond SG7500 mag mount in the middle of the F250 crewcab.

CB's are still popular? Or are they coming back (70's).

I had a cb when it was 23 channels. Never had a 40 channel CB.

You can check out my gallery, I mounted mine across from my radio antenna. I did mine for the same reason you state and it works okay. Not as well as it would on top of the cab, but decent.

Seems like you could get a exact match of the factory antenna (most parts stores have them, or you can go to the stealer), mount it on the oposite fender and use the little adapter from JC Whitney it'd be cool. If you get the little FM adapter I think you'll really be suprised how well they work with a 4 watt radio! VERY low SWR! (it IS tunable!) Hard to match the SWR with a regular CB antenna even.

I'd say NO, CB's are far from popular anymore. That really kinda stinks, and is kinda good at the same time!

The old 23 channel radios still work great! I've got a few older one's I've collected. Some you can find at yard sales are actually worth quite a bit if you know which ones to look for.

That is exactly what I am in the process of doing myself. I am just waiting on a few parts from firestik. Was the process difficult at all and have you had any problems with the mounting plate not being strong enough for the fiberglass antenna whipping in the wind? I see you added a support screw but do you think that was necessary?
One final question - you installed a grommet on the plastic piece you drilled through. The radio antenna doesn't use a grommet and I was wondering if you put it on because the plastic was chewed up from drilling through it?

CB's are more of a necessary item rather than a novelty in my neck of the woods. As a logger in North Idaho we use them all the time for communication going in and out of the woods and in my town probably 75% of the pickups have a CB radio and about half of those have a "big radio", which is an FM repeater radio which we can reach up to 100 miles depending on our location.

Not dificult at all, just took my time to get the placement where I wanted it so I would get the hole it the right place. No problems at all, the support I added, I believe, was necessary to prevent whipping. I have a Firestick 5' antenna that is larger in diameter, and it will whip quite a lot even with the added support. That is why I am using the K-40 which is smaller. The grommet just makes the hole look cleaner.

Please don't get me wrong.
I thought CB radio was dying in favor of the FRS.

I've been on CB back in the 70's. In 1977 I got my "Ham" license and sold my CB stuff. I have a VHF/UHF FM "Ham" rig (Yaesu Ft-8800) in the truck now. I haven't been around a CB since the 70's.

HF in the house. 100+ countries confirmed.

Someone was telling me about a CB and scanner in one unit. Does anyone use one or know anything about them?
