I have a 1988 F-150 4x2 302. I have been advised that the Wiper control module is bad. Any ideas as to how long it would take to replace and the difficulty involved?(What has to come off, be moved, etc) Also, where is cheapest to buy one? Any help is greatly appreciated!
The wire control module is under the dash on the passenger side. Remove the glovebox and it's the black module with one fat connector hanging off. It's held on with two screws.
It will take you longer to take the glovebox hinge off.
On an 88, if you have the Interval wiper option, the Interval Governor Module is located on the Driver side Lower reinforcement of Instrument Panel, on the left side of the cowl.
If has the following color wires going to it. Red wire, Black wire, White wire, another Red wire and a Black/Pink wire.
If you remove the bottom fuse panel cover and lay on your back, look up in the area described above and you should see it hanging there.
Open the Interval Governor Module cover and verify the solder joint for a large heat sink hasn't cracked. Resolder it if it is cracked.
The last time I checked, the Module was around $80.00 from the Dealer.

dude, you are the MAN!!! i just pulled mine out and checked the heat sink. sure enough it was loose as can be. a little bit o solder on the joints and i have full-functioning wipers again. tada!
now, here's a question: when i pulled out the module, the harness on the end that DOESN'T plug into the wiper switch was wrapped in a thick foam tape. also, the module unit itself was bolted to a metal bracket, but that bracket wasn't bolted to anything.
1) does this sound like someone else has been in there screwing with this before me?
2) where does that bracket screw to?
3) should i even screw the bracket to anything? i mean, it's basically all the shaking around that screwed this guy up in the first place, right? i just left mine hangine for now, but i figured i'd get under there and loosely mount it to something with some zip ties.

Appears Bubba worked on it.

I looked at mine and like you said there are two 7/32 bolts that hold a metal bracket to the back of the module. The bracket then bolts the metal frame that the emergency brake handle bolts to using a 9/32 bolt.
If you look thru the opening in the that bracket where the emergency brake handle is, there is a bezel type clip that the 9/32 sheet metal type bolt attaches to.
I had to use a small ignition open end wrench to get the 9/32 bolt out. It's a pain. Not a lot of room. I did remove the driver side kick panel to gain some room. I think if you had a 1/4 flexible extension you could get to the 9/32 bolt.
I just pulled my module because the delay function wasn't working. Found another cold solder joint on the 600UF cap.
Resoldered and the delay function is now working. I had the same problem you had about 7 years ago.
I don't recall any foam taped to the wire harness. (I'm the original owner of my truck). It does appear Bubba didn't take the time to bolt the module back in properly but it shouldn't cause a problem.
