Tips for scratches

I just put 3 to 4 running minor scratches down the driver side of a metallic silver 06 stx. They are just deep enough in some places where i can catch them with my fingernail. We had a rain last night and i went and looked at it this morning, and i could tell very well where the scratches where as the water was catching in the scratches almost. Is this something I could possibly buff out with wax, or would I have to get this professionaly tailored to? How much should something like this cost at a body shop? Man im ticked off

I feel for you man... I already got a door ding towards the back of my box above the wheel well from some **** in an SUV. Plus, since my kid likes to wear his backpack, he scratched the door with one of the zippers as he got out! :-(

If you're lucky, the scratch didn't go beyond the clearcoat.

Try using some wax that says it polishs/cleans, like Meguiars Cleaner Wax (I think that's what it's called) There's some very fine abrasive in there and should smooth out the scratch. If that doesn't work, find a more abrasive polish but be careful with the stuff since it'll take off paint. Then lay a thick layer of wax over it when you're done.

Try a product called Meguiar's Scratch X. It removes light scratches and swirls, and it's clear coat safe.

It comes in a 7oz tube. It's a little expensive, $10.99.

I used this stuff on my wife's Harley to remove some scratches on the front fender. It worked great! Scratches gone, and the paint looks great.

Just follow the directions and wax it when you're done.

Good luck...

If you can catch your fingernail in the groove, chances are the scratch is too deep, and would need a professional repair.

I'd try the scratch repair comounds first, if that doesnt fix them, then I'd get some estimates.

For an 06, I'd not experiment on my own.

Most autobody repair shops will know how to buff the scratch(es) out unless they are too deep. I've had this done a few times. They are experienced and stock the various products. They will start with the correct product (product with the abrasion level to match and even out the scratch....and then proceed up with less abrasive product to get you back to a pure wax. If you have any contacts with a body-shop, or have a friend who does, they'll probably take care of you if you show up with $20-$40 and a tweleve-pack. If the scratch(es) are indeed too deep, know that most body shops would estimate the repair based on the number of panels the scratch spans.

Try Meguirs Scratch X. Works awesome even on my Black Bmw! If that doesnt work, you can get some fine cut meguirs polish and try it polish it out(use a random orbitor. When using a polish, its literally impossible to get scratches out by hand unless you are Superman )
