Most important! If you have a tow hitch, hook to it, don't hook to your bumber, dont want to cause any damage to your truck. If he hooks to his bumber who cares its a chevy and you can pull it right off. lol
Make sure your hitch is higher than his so that his weight will pull down onto your truck which in turn will take weight away from his truck.
Also be prepared for CARNAGE as this will be BRUTAL for both trucks.
An alternate way would be to go to a local Truck Pull and see who pulls the sled the farthest. (much easier on equipment, although breakage is still very possible).

Reason: Forgot something
His truck is heavier, and he has lower gears AND he has a granny gear 4-spd.I saw a similiar pulloff years ago-a really beat '80 chevy 3/4 4x4 w/350 4-spd vs a '79 ford 150 4x4 swb 400m/auto.The chevy yanked the he!! out of the ford, dragging him till the ford almost slid sideways off the pavement.I'd say you'll lose, cause you know he'll clutch the snot out of it on the start-you don't have that "shock" factor. If he ever gets you moving backward-it's all over.
My son put my 78 F100 right after we converted it to a 4X4 up against a Dodge, they took off and hit the end of the chain, and it snapped and come through the back window. They tried it again doubling it up, and the ford(my avatar) drug him all over.
After replacing the back window, he has not driven my truck again.
My advice, use a heavy chain, and pull it tight first. If all you have is a 1/4 chain, double or tripple it up first.
One thing you can do to help reduce the shock loading on the chain is to run it through and around an old tire or two. The chain will compress the rubber. For the safety of everyone involved, make sure you are using heavy enough chain or strap that it will not break. The last thing you want is to hurt someone.
The truth is, it almost always comes down to experience. If he's done it a few times successfully, you'll almost certainly lose. If it's the first time for both of you, it will probably be as much luck as skill or equipment. I used to pull my trucks a good deal (73 F250, 81 F250), and won a lot after I got the hang of it. I suffered some very humiliating losses until I did. The times I lost were almost always to someone with more experience than me, regardless of what they were pulling. I second the post above that says pull your chain or strap tight before the whistle; otherwise someone will get hurt. Both of you shock loading a slack chain/strap will break it and cause serious injury to someone.
Good luck; and let us know how it comes out.

well we finally did it.. the first time we were both in 2 wheel drive and had the chain tight..... when they said go i knew he was gunna dump his clutch..... and he did but i had my brakes on (they are really good because 2 days before i put new rotors calipers and pads on both sides) well of course he started to spin tires and i just eased into it and drug him a good 10 yards backwards with his tires spinning forward. Well he wanted a rematch in 4 wheel drive so i obliged and put it in 4 low... we lined up again and this time he decided to not go till i went first so i took off and started dragging him backward then he pushed in the clutch and starting revving it up and figured that he was gunna dump the clutch while i was pulling him backwards well at the same time he let the clutch out i floored it... and thats when all hell broke loose... what i didn't know was that he put each loop of the chain on either side of his differential housing on the rear end.. well some how it pulled two leaf springs out sideways and broke something in his rear end......serves him right in his p.o.s chevy..... to make things even more funnier i pulled him home lol
sorry no video but he wants a rematch when his truck is fixed... so definite video then... what he doesn't know is that by the time his truck is fixed mine will be a 400 with carb, intake, headers and exhaust.. curious is to how bad i can beat him next time
