Has anyone converted a 4x2 to a 4x4? I have a 2000 xlt sd w/ a 6 speed manual. Did ford make a xfer case for the manual? Also, what front axle options would i have? I figure i can buy a 4x4 lift for most of the suspension components. Has anyone attempted this? Is the cost just stupid? It seems that the junk parts i would need must be cheaper than the option from ford, as long as i perform the labor myself.
yes the manual transmissions have a transfercase, ask kwikkordead, he has a manual/4x4, or ask cookie88.
but the cost of changing a 2wd to a 4wd is not even realistic, it is cheaper to sell your truck and buy a four wheel drive one. the front axle of choice from 1999-2001 was dana 50, and in 2002 they changed them to dana 60's.
there would be major work involved in the conversion. and it would probably be cheaper to sell yours and buy a 4x4, but if you had the time and equipment i think it would be a fun project just dont plan on driving it for a while becuse it would probably take a long time
