Ok my dad has a 2003 F-250 4x4 Ext. Cab Lariat. It's got the 5.4L V8 gas engine and is very nice. It has the backup sensors but they stopped working recently. The button to override them stays on all the time unless you hit it twice and the sensors don't work. What could be causing this? Thanks.
same symptoms as mine. I have one bad sensor. I used my sons truck to diagnose my sensors one at a time. Removed one of his sensors and plugged in mine one at a time.
Then put his truck in reverse to see if the system still functioned. If yes sensor ok. If not sensor bad. Turned out I have one bad sensor and I now Know which one and will replace it eventually.
Do you have access to another vehicle with sensors?
I get the same problem...best I've come up with is that it's moisture in them and they're dirty. When mine get dirty, they start to crap out. Then I wash the truck, day or so after when the moisture get out they're back to normal. Hope that helps...
Most of the time that means BAD sensor in the sensor on the rear of the bumper. Ford has a tool at the dealer to tell which sensor is bad. I do know it will lock the rest though from working.
On my 06' the backup sensors did not work on the very day I brought it home. I contacted my dealer and brought it in to be checked out. It took about 10 minutes and the tech came in to tell me the the back-up sensor module ( the actual chingus in the dash that button is attached to) was defective. They ordered the part and when it came in a week or so later it took all of 20 minutes and I was back on the road. It has worked perfectly ever since. I bet your problem will be the module as well.......
This is just a friendly reminder (or in some cases it may be a lesson) about Reputation or Rep points. Notice that at the top of each thread…over to the right you see a green box or in some cases multiple green boxes. The more boxes, the higher the poster’s reputation on the FTE. Do a mouseover the green boxs) and it’ll give you that person’s rating.
When you feel that somebody has given good advice or has helped you with a question or issue there is a way to say “Thank You” to them. On the other side of the coin, if you feel somebody has provided bad information or that a post should be removed, you can also use this tool. They are called Rep Points.
Note at the top of the thread, there is a little scale symbol. Click this and you get a window that opens. There are two check blocks available, I approve or I disapprove. Check the appropriate block and make sure you enter a comment.

What your describing is the system telling you that you either have a bas sensor or a bad module. Chances are it is a bad sensor.
I just had one replaced 2 weeks ago.
The dealer will hook up to their PCM (WDS computer) and your main truck computer will tell them exactly which sensor is the problem. Any one sensor shuts off the system to alert you.
As one poster described, you can try the "hit and miss" approach to figuring which one it is and save money, or the dealer can do it. It cost me $200 for a complete diagnoise and repair/replace of one sensor... so you will have to decide.
I am so use to using the back-up sensor that I had to get it fixed.
Good luck, but the dealer can fix in about 1 hour or so (if they have the sensor part in stock).
