I am guessing it is the EBPV. while it is closed you will loose boost and power. Reason being is air cannot come in if air is restricted going out. The sound you are hearing is the higher pitched sound while the EBPV is closed. Relax you will be fine. In fact start the truck and let it idle a few minutes while it is cold and you will hear it change sounds while it is idling in your driveway. Stand next to the tail pipe and you will really hear the pitch change. Usually happens about a minute or so after start up on a cold engine
Try unplugging your EBPV for a few days and see if that's not it.
Where exactly is the EBPV. I'm going to unplug it and see if that is the problem. Is it on the left front of the motor. pics would be real helpful, Thanks.
What does the EBPV do?????? I'm looking at a 2001 that seems like it has no boost until it gets up in RPM, then you can hear the boost start coming in hard!!!!
Part of the problem was a plugged air filter, but it still feels down on power until it reaches the higher rpm's
that EBPV helped warm up the truck on cold mornings, you may want to allow an exta 3-4 minutes in the morning because there wont be a restriction like the EBPV to hold the heat in.
