I want to change my truck to a 4spd from the c6 I have now. I've got the bellhousing, clutch pedel, master cylinder, and slave cylinder all from a 2wd truck mine is 4x4 so now I need a tranny. Does anyone have any idea what a used t19 tranny will cost? Also what would be a good asking price for my c6 with transfer case nothing wrong with it but the drive gear for the speedo is bad?
Dave , Where can I find the speedo gear for the inside of my transfer case ? Ford has dicontinued it and all the specialty shops say an aftermarket is not available . Has anyone tried one made out of metal from a machine shop ?
i paid 275 for my t19 a t18 has lower ratios. c6-t19 wont benifit u much except u have a standard wich that is cool but i have a t19 in my f350 anda c6 in my bronco similar tires sizes and gear ratios and ruising rpms is the same unless i have my gv on u just got to get a 4x tranny anda t case adapter for the right transfercase u are running
The T-19B has the syncro first gear as used behind the 6.9. BUT GET THE 84' and later unit, as the gear ratios were revised.
I had a 83' 6.9 that I absolutly loved as far as the truck went, but I detested the transmission so much that I sold the truck in a year. Not because I wore my leg out on the clutch (a decent "truck" trans only needs the clutch to start the load moving, not when shifting) but because there was such a split between third and fourth. With a load I could not get past that gap on a mountain pass, so I would be stuck at 35 while the semi's blew by me at 40 to 45.
First, second and third were perfect, then it needed a gear between third and fourth, fourth was ok and then a gear higher than fourth - a six speed!
Anyways, for 1984 Ford raised third gear a bit higher up, so there was not as much gap between third - fourth, made it better, but nothing like a decent "real" truck trans would have been like.
Oh, if you are looking for fuel mileage both your C-6 and the T-19B will get the SAME mileage or within a couple of percent at a fixed hiway speed as the C-6 has the lock up and both have the same 1:1 top gear. If you are looking for MPG, then get a later trans with a overdive top gear.
