What to do

ok I have a 93 F150 5.8L / 351W 4X4 Ext Cab. Its stock as of now. Im working on the engine to get some kick outta her so thats good to go. I just wanna know waht I should do with about 1K of funds. What should I do to her? Tires are taken care of. What lift should I get since I know I need one to have fun with her off road.

My dad said he would buy the tires for me. But would 12.50 even fit on my 10.50?

Do you still have the stock wheels? If so they are like 6.5 or 7" wide. You could run 12.50s but you might want to upgrade to some 15x10 wheels.

I second that. Rough country is pretty cheap, and their products aren't too bad. The only thing about 35s is that you may need to regear. Most of the trucks came with 3.55s, but you may be one of the lucky ones that got 4.10s

With 1K, skip the lift for now and get a locker or two.

Is this thing a DD? Throw a Detroit out back. That'll help get you a lot farther than the lift will. Either that or get a LS up front.

Do it smart and build a solid driveline first.

That's a really good point. If you don't drive TOO hard, a lockrite seems to be a good choice. They are cheaper than a detroit, and don't require any setup, just installation.

i agree, at least put a loc-rite in the back....you can either run some 33's with no lift, or wait, and save up for some 35's and a small lift, but the locker is going to make a huge difference trail riding

Yup! A brand new loc-rite won't even run you $300.

Get a Power-Puller, a Hi-Lift Jack, a few straps, shackles and a small compressor or a Power Tank and you're in business brother.

All that, with a Power Tank, will run you to about 1K.

Then you're already ahead of the game. Don't be eager to spend it just because you have some TO spend. Budget your money so you know what you WANT to spend it on.

Spend the $300 or whatever dollars and get a locker. Then figure out what size tires you want and plan your lift around that. The more you just piece stuff together, the more money you blow on crap you may not want / need.

Plan your purchases are try to do as much at once as you can. Or, if you are having it done by someone, get as much done at once to save money on labor.

I wish now that I had bought the locker first. 2 bald tires spinning almost equals 1 swamper Seriously, now that I have a locker and swampers, I hardly ever use 4wd, except when screwing around.

I would say take your pick. I think(but don't know this for sure) that they are all made by the same company. They all look the same, so who has the patent? There is also genuine gear quickloc, aussie, and the list goes on. I would say buy the cheapest one. For me it was the lockrite, but I have a different rear axle. For you, it might be a different one.

Swap a '78-79 D44 under the front, along with some good 4" lift EB coils, blocks in the rear, and throw a lock-rite in the back. Should be able to do it for well under $1K if your thrifty. What kind/size tires are you going to run?
