Is the Detroit Electrac the one that is a LSD when not locked?
Just remember that the clutch-based LSD's wear out over time, and that 8.8 Trac-Lok is probably not going to be the strongest anymore. There are other kinds of LSD's that don't use clutches that would resist wear better.
If you want a regular LS, get a Detroit TrueTrac. No clutches, no special fluids, or other crap. And it's adjustable, prior to install, for how much biasing you want. Good solid unit for 35" tires or less.
haha Im 17. I looked at all the local junk yards I didnt SCOURE the state though. I guess I should call some more people and such.
You might want to consider looking at www.craigslist.org for a city near you and look in the auto parts section. There's a lot of cool cheap stuff in there!
My opinion of limited slips is not that high. I paid to get one installed in a truck, and found out shortly there after that I craved the traction of a locker. The traction increase of a LS over open is marginal. I would say go for an insertable locker right away. If for some reason you are unhappy, then you can take it back out and reinstall your spider gears.
how much more tire wear do I get with a rear locker? the guy that owned the truck befor me welded the front spool so its a locker now (found out when I called the guy about the rear gears to see if he changed them.)
Depends on how you drive... If you try to spin your tires at every corner you could expect as low as 25000 miles on BFG ATs... Or you could drive it nicely and lose about 5000 miles
no... i see what you thought i said though... What i meant was If you drive the truck nicely then you will only lose about 5000 miles off of the 50,000 you would normally see from AT's... If you drive the truck rough you could easily cut the tread life in half.
