howdy have 98 montaineer with 5 liter,awd.l have exhaust leak. it does not sound loud, when a muffler as a hole but it sound like if it was hissing missing when starting off down the road after few seconds no more hissing?

On my 97 Explorer the gasket in between the cat and pipe that went to the muffler burned out, but that made my exhaust louder. Your problem might be after the muffler if its not making the exhaust any louder. The only way to know for sure is to take a look at your exhaust.
