I am about to change the p.steering pump on my 2001 5.4L F150... I have a puller for the pulley and wanted to know if there are any particular methods or procedures to follow... since this is the first time that I have even seen this problem. Please advise any tricks?
I wonder if the moderators could move this over to the 97-03 forum. This guy is new. Welcome to the site BTW. The guys over on that forum should be able to help you.
Some of these pumps have 4 bolts that hold it to the engine and some have 3. If it has 4 you'll have to remove the pressure hose first before you can remove the 4th bolt. If it only has 3 bolts you can remove the pump with the hoses attached and then remove the hoses.
I use a long, approximately 3', extension with a 10mm swivel socket to remove the bolts. A normal socket and extension will work too but it's a bit more work.
The pressure hose is 18mm. You will quite likely need a flare wrench or crowfoot socket to remove it.
Besides the puller to remove the pulley you'll also need a tool to press it back on.
