Bad noises from Tranny

My '97 F-150 4.2 / auto had been shifting and accellerating badly and not dropping down gears properly. Getting worse over the last month. Of course, I couldn't spare the time to do something about it immediately.

Last few days, I have a nasty "rattle" of some kind (sounds like something between a loose cat heat shield and bad bearing). Makes the noise most prominently when you rev it a bit in Park/Neutral, and when accellerating in lower gears. Also, you can hear it for a few seconds when you let off the power in any gear.

I did a fluid and filter change, the truck now shifts and accellerates fine but that noise is still pretty bad.

What does this sound like? I am fairly sure it's coming from the transmission. Input shaft bearing? Something else?

I should have dropped everything and done the fluid/filter right away. I am a bad owner. Good thing I don't keep pets. My backyard would look like a Stephen King movie.

take a rubber hammer and hit the cats. sounds like the bricks could be loose in one of the cats.

I pounded the crap out of the cats with the rubber hammer. My girlfriend is now very upset and they have blood all over their fur. Great advice.

I will try the ones on the truck now.

Thanks
