93 explorer odd braking

93 explorer odd braking

My 93 explorer XLT will sometimes while braking make this sound that somewhat resembles a fart (sorry that's the best i can describe it). It seems to do this especially when braking on ice. Any ideas what's up? or should i even be worried about it?

I think thats the samething thats happens to my 93,i think its just something with the ABS i havent had any problems with it other then it making that noise.

If you feel a pulsation in the brake pedal, then it's probably the ABS, which is what it's supposed to do.

Is it the same noise the ABS makes when you first start the car and drive a few feet? My 93 4W ABS has done this from day one. I guess it cycles the ABS piston. If this is the same noise then your ABS might be getting actuated when you hit the breaks. If it's not supposed to be doing this, ie tires are not slipping, first easy thing to check are the ABS sensors. Rear is located in the top of the diff, towards the front. Fronts are near the calipers and point to the rotors - kind of hard to see.
