Hello all. My 99 250 has DRL's on it. I dont really mind having them except that they are on any time the key is on. Well with the 7.3 I have to wait with my headlights on before I can start the engine. I know that I could unplug the thing behind the headlight or pull the fuse. But I am curious. Has anybody put a switch in that would allow you to turn them on and off at will? Or maybe wire them in to the brake lights So that you have to step on the brake before they come on. Well thanks for any help.
We have DRLs on the trucks at work (I live in Canada) and I know that when you put the parking brake on (even just one click) they will turn off. May be an idea you are looking for...
I have a Canadian 2002, and the DRL's do not go off when you push on the p-brake. I like the DRL's most of the time, but there are those times when I wish I could switch them off (like at a drive-in...). I've been inquiring and have gathered some info from a number of sources about where/how to cut a switch in. I'll take a look in my saved "stuff", and post what I have here (if I can). Y'all can have a look and the more knowledgable can let the rest know if it makes any sense...

on edit...
I found the PDF's I was looking for, one is an original schematic (for a 2001), and the other is a diagram with some instructions on doing the mod. I have not tried the mod yet, maybe this summer.
I'm not allowed to post attachments however. (Any help here, mods? - I know I'm just a "junior user", and I guess that's why). Any advice if anyone wants them?

That's weird. I have always heard that putting on the parking brake will turn them off. BUT, on my 2002 Focus that doesn't work. At work, one of the 2005s I have driven will turn off with the parking brake. Strange.
Phil, you can send me that file through email and I can host it. Click my username to send me an email and I will send you one back with my email address (you can't post them here).
My Canadian 02 F250's DRL's turn off with the e-brake
I thought they did. That's weird.

If you are a ClubFTE Member (like me) you can post attachments. It's $15.99 a year or $45.99 for 3 years. If you sign up for 3 years you get a free FT T-Shirt. Oh and you get access to the ClubFTE Forum at the top. Very fun!
A Daytime Running Lights. They automatically come on when the vehicle starts. Usually it is just your headlights but a bit dimmer. Makes it so people can see you better so less chance of getting in an accident. They are the law up here in Canada since 1990.
Does you red brake light come with the park brake? If it does not then the drl's would not be shut off either.
Yes light comes on. DRL stay on also

Is there a more detailed schematic of the mod than the first mod diagram? I am not following it. I see you cut lb/pk wire for the relay. But what is it talking about input and output? Is input/output the power wire for the DRL? Is there somthing missing here? I am only seeeing three wires now going to the relay. Dont you need at least four?
edit: After looking at the other diagram. Could I not just put a simple toggle switch in line with the lb/pk wire?

My 02 F-350 PSD came from Canada and it did turn off the DRL to go to the first click on the parking brake. The problem was as when you went to the first click the annoying chimeing started. All I had to do to defeat the DRL's was to remove one fuse from the fuse box. To rig a switch just get a single-pole single-throw switch (2 lugs on swith) attach a wire to each lug on the switch. Then install a fuse holder inline on the wire with the same size fuse as the DRL fuse. Then either modify a fuse (by blowing it) and attaching a wire to each side of the fuse (you'll have to break the plastic and solder a wire to each side). Plug in the "dummy" fuse and mount the switch and you are done.
Here's the schematic:
wire to dummy fuse________new fuse_______switch______wire to dummy fuse
Why go through the trouble of making that dummy switch setup? I dont want wires hanging out of my fuse box. I think I am just going to cut that LB/PK wire and put a switch inline with it.
Hi all - been busy for a few days, and catching up.
It's wierd, but I tried putting the parking brake on just one click, and the DRL's go off! I thought I had tried this in the past, and it didn't work, but I guess not. Of course, the annoying chime kicked in...
slimfitz - The schematics that Matt posted are all I have, nor do I have any additional explanations - sorry, but it appears as if what you're asking about should work, but I have no first hand knowledge...
