Just trying to solve my problem per my previous post- the tick is more like a very small knock. Has anyone ever put in thicker oil to see if the noise goes away? I want to be pretty sure that is what it is before I dive into it-
You should have hung in on your last post as you were getting close to a pattern of things done.........
The fact that your tick is from the #7 cylinder area is disturbing, this is one of the cylinders prone to Cavitation. Are you loosing any coolant, you stated I believe, no excess smoke from the exhaust.
Yes lifters can fail, they are roller (wheel) type and can shatter the wheel, flat spot the wheel or just disintegrate the wheel assy. Usually you can see or measure a difference in height of the rocker assy. If lifters do break on occasion cam damage can occur, sorry to be so negative. You must diagnose the problem correctly, as disassembly is well into the bowels of the engine.
You say a knock, this could also be a bad injector, so loosen the cap nut for 15+ seconds on the #5 and then #7 injectors separately, closing of the #5 before opening the #7 then closing it. Did the knock go away at all, a definite loss of power and shudder should have been observed.
