my truck takes for ever to start like 3 or 4 tiries my dad thinks the timing is off but i didnt think it took that long for a carb. truck to start any suggestions
ill try that someone time soon id have to have my dad help me on that....but the guy i bought it off of it was his toy and it was a weekend truck for him and he has most of the stuff set up for high performance could that have something to do with it...i wouldnt have to buy a different carb. would i? im not going to be racing in it, its going to be a daily driven back n forth from school and to and from work
i dont believe there is a choke.....its a 351m but not sure of the carb. i know its no cheap thing because that guy i bought it off of was real **** bout the truck so im sure its a good carb. he put 10k in it and sold it to me for 4500
On a 351M the thermostat housing comes out of the block straight up. Meaning the intake is dry.
The picture in your gallery shows an engine with a wet intake with a 90*angle thermostat housing and because it is small......meaning it's either a 302 or 351W.
What is the firing order stamped on the intake manifold.?
ok its deff. a 351 i thought u said it was an m yesterday but i read it wrong umm ill have to have my dad do all that stuff tomorrow its my mom bday today so he didnt wanna do anything to it today.....also in the picturs of the interior i have a b&m shifter i believe i wanted to swap that out with another and my dad and his friend at work that is a real gear head said that a pinto? shifter would work in the truck because the shifter in there has a pin u can pull up to get from park to nutrual then you can realease it and "kick it" it down to drive 3 2 1 then when u go back up you have to pull the pin to get back in nutrual reverse and park but it always acts like it dont wanna go back up it gets real tough to pull the pin up so
I agree with Uncle Mil1ion, check the timing with a timing light, make sure to disconnect the vacuum line on the distributor. Clean the harmonic balancer and mark the line on balancer with some white chalk or paper white out.

Pop the air cleaner off and post a pic of the carb. If it truely doesn't have a choke, that's probably your problem right there. Ultra-high performance carbs have the chokes removed to get max airflow at wide open throttle. Not really necessary on the street. If your carb doesn't have a choke, I'd see about either adding one or replacing the one on there with a carb that has a choke.
Have you tried pumping the gas pedal when trying to start it? It might help make up for lack of choke. The accelerator pump will shoot extra fuel into the intake and might help start it quicker.
