At what mileage on an explorer would you consider too high to buy? I'm looking at a few high mileage ones right now.. One is 220k. How long would that last on stock engine/trans? Do you think Explorer could even make it to 220k with stock engine/trans?
thats a tuff one i got rid of my 94 with 188k on it ....it ran good, just everything else was falling apart like door handles, *****, rear wiper took a dump, etc....the motor, tranny and exhaust were all original and never had any problem with that aspect had it for 10 years, and i drove it hard...real hard.....lol and kept comming back for more...
I think that you need to read a post that has been on here for quite some time. It is on page 4 or 5 and is called "how many miles do you have". There are some interesting posts on this thread that will interest you and help to answer your question. Greg
Yeah, I already looked at that. But, it still doesnt answer if people were using stock engine/whatever and there arent many above 200k at all, anyways.
220K is a lot no matter what engine, but I would be more concerned about a 4.0 that high than I would the 5.0. Price would be my largest issue fo rthat high of mileage - basically meaning am I getting a good enough deal on the vehicle to have some room for repairs if they do come up.
Well, that's the problem. I'm going to be getting my license soon, so I'd like to get something ASAP and I don't think I can get much from my parents. Should I just keep saving up and get something with ~120k for ~$3k instead of a 222k $1k vehicle? I was looking at this: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...dist=18#vdptop
Looks it was taken care of atleast. I think I may end up saving up and getting a newer one with the new exterior/interior with less miles.
I understand your idea because I was in that same position when I was your age. I can tell you from experience though, I think you would do better waiting a little while longer and getting something else than you would getting that Explorer. Looking at the dent in the front bumper, etc - I think the price on that vehicle is a price where someone is trying to get rid of it because they know something is going to happen. I might be wrong, but my advice is to keep working and keep shopping.
