im thinking about lowereing the lid on my 51 2 in ches. if this is done i know new glass will have to be cut but what about the gaskets and such?. i am just dreaming. i have rust where the mirror used to mount so i have to take ourt the windshield to fix explore damage, and was dreamiong of a chop. being sick with lots of time to dream is a bad bad thing

I don't call it dreaming, I call it imagineering. When I'm laid up and can't do anything I do that, keeps my mind off why I'm laid up.

Call it what ever you want, long as it helps you get through.

Hope you recover soon. Do a search here for a lot of info on chopping tops. Gaskets are easy, just chop them too. The top will need to be split and lengthened in both directions to match back up. The easiest way to do that is to have a spare top to work with, cutting each slightly off center equal to 1/2 the extra metal needed. That way you only have 1 seam in each direction to deal with rather than trying to weld in a narrow strip of metal and keep everthing straight. Matching up the door frames and maintaining the contours and gaps is the biggest challenge.
