Twinsticking does not have anything to do with your tranny, just the t-case. If you have the NP205 you can do it, or if you have the Dana transfer case it can be done too (300?). You cannot twin stick a chain driven case like the 203 or 208.
how do you convert a 205 to twin stick? is there a kit,do you have to remove or replace internal parts?or is it simply replacing the single stick and fulcrum pivot for 2 seperate sticks?im curios ,i would like to maybe try this convertion.-billy
ivan, thanks for the write up.your conversion looks great! i may attempt this convertion on my truck this year.i was wondering,do you think this can be done without removing the t case from the truck,or is it not worth trying while the t case is still in the truck? i also have a spare 205 that i thought of adding in to the driveline,to give me a double reduction effect.its just an idea so far.my truck has the divorced tcase,np 435 combo.i would like a twin stick over the 2 t cases if i have to pic only one conversion over the other. thanks again for the response,it really shows what im up against. -billy
It's not worth trying to do this with the t-case in the truck still. It only takes me about an hour to drop the case and that's with the married setup. With a divorced case it comes out faster and easier.
FWIW you can run a double AND a twinstick conversion, you just have to get a little fancy with your shift linkages. What I'd recommend, rather than 2 NP205's, is to build a doubler using the gear box off a 203. You can buy an adapter kit that bolts it up to the 205 and you're set. Then you have the extra low gear for super slow crawling. You'd want to find a range box from a divorced 203 and mate it to a married 205 case for your truck, unless you're prefer to do away with the divorced case and go to a married setup. For that you'd need a married 203 box and a married 205. I was going to do this on my truck but I finally decided not to because there's no reason I need to go THAT slow. But if you do rock crawling it's a great choice.
ivan, thanks for your input,it gives me some other options to consider.P.S. dont know if ive ever mentioned it before, but you have got a killer cool truck.-billy
Thanks for the compliments Billy. Let me know if you have any questions as you get rolling on your project. I've done a fair amount of playing on these t-cases and what I haven't done yet I can probably find you good info on.
thanks for all your help Ivan,my t case conversion wont happen just yet,we are in the starting stage of building a 3 bay shop at our house.i need a bigger place to work on the toys. my wife wants the house garage back for her car.once the new shop is done,im going to tackle the t case project. SnoMan,the links you listed are also very helpful, thanks. i will probably need some of the expert advice you guys are offering, when i start my t case upgrade.-billy
