my 86 f150 has duel front shocks.is it possible to convert to a single shock on each side instead of having two.this way i only have to only buy 2 instead of 4 $$$
i know it looks that easy, but on single shock front ends ,doesnt the single shock go through the coil spring? on my thuck there is a shock on each side of the spring.
On single shock front-ends the shock is located on the rearward side of the spring, not inside the spring. If you want to make it look nice you can get the upper spring/shock mounting bracket off a truck that has single shocks. It would be easier to jsut leave the front on off but when buying new shocks specify a single shock set-up or you will get a shock with too soft of valving. I would suggest rancho 5000 as a cheap replacement. i have them of the rear of my '95 bronco and they work good. good luck dude.
The rearward shock is the same regardless of with or without quad shocks. No different valving or anything. If you don't want to spend the cash, just replace the rearward one. You could even leave your nasty old front one there if you wanted too.
So it IS okay to go from duel setup to single? Why do we have two then?
I just want to know because I am in the same boat. 4 need replacing but cheaper to do 2.
Thanks.
The quad shocks were part of a handling package, usually accompanined by a front sway bar as well. It was an option, not a requirement. I think the quad shocks look pretty sweet though.
All i know is that the trucks feels all jiggly and bumpy. It feels like my wheels will fall off when I go through an intersection or over a cracked road.
well mine came with front and read sway bars quad shocks in the front and the 'heavy duty' rears
also GT(roll) bar, map light, AC, cargo area carpeting, wood grain dash , exterior tire carrier, under hood light etc etc
