The plastic piece underneath the windshield wipers, that is called the cowling right? This piece has three rows of squares which run across the vehicle from side to side. In front of the drivers area, in two of these row and about ten squares in each row, the bottom is still intact in these squares. This allows rain was to just lay in little puddles in these squares. Are these bottoms suppose to be there or perhaps during the manufacturing of this piece, the bottoms were somehow left there. Unless they were left with bottoms in them to keep water from running onto something, I can't think why they would be left there. Although water running throught the rest of the squares would fall in the same area. The vehicle is a 2006 F150 Lariat. Thanks
I believe that they are there to shield the windshield wiper linkage and motor from the elements. I think if you removed the material from the cowl, you are going to create additional problems(linkage freezing up and motor failures). The dealer may not honor warr issues because it would be a "mod" by putting holes in it. I think the design sucks personally- allows water to sit there and freeze up/snow buildup. Plus that cowling design is a joke- there are others including myself having problems with fit and not staying together because of its plastic, two part snap together in the middle engineering crap. I have found no answer to this- If someone has one, I'd like to hear it.
The plastic snap in the middle was bothering me after I had it in for some warranty work, it wasn't snapped back together and one edge stuck up. Lift the hood and make sure the snaps along the bottom are in first, then the middle stays snapped in a little better.
