It is terriblle! It's -28dgr C outdors! The weather will be so cold here till weekend.
Yesterday starter rotated engine slowly, but it fiered! MPG is terrible too. It warmed up very slowly (for more then 5 miles). But I went to my job and found my battery went out when I tried to start it to drive home...
Boosting battery delivered by my brothes saved me! Today I've decided to go by my frieds car and to let her to have a rest... It's interresting what codes will I see when I try to pull it tomorrow...
do you have 0w20 weight synthetic oil available there, Pablo? really helps in extreme cold starting conditions...will also work well year around unless one is towing or heavy loads
a battery heater would help also, lead/acid batterys loose much of their current producing capability below 0d C
i would imagine there is also a problems with disc and drum brakes taking in snow/water and freezing up
i've even had a hunting 4wdr parked in 1 foot of snow in Montana freeze to the ground, we couldn't move it until we dug out around each tire and poured hot water
burrrrrr, -28d C, makes my hand arthritis hurt even thinking about it....can send you some of our rain....40 cm in past month...run the Aero defrost continually
no Ice Age here, Texas burning up from desert sagebrush fires but no lose, just desert, hela monster posionious lizards, rattlesnakes and armidillos
The problem was in battery. Last winter I solved this problem disconnecting the negative wire on parking. There is no snow this year. Roads are clean. There are not so many cars on streets, but buses are overcrouded and it is difficult to catch a taxy cab. Yesterday I had to bue boosting wires. It was difficult too. I had never use it before (to push a car is easier and to start motor on 2nd gear). But the oil in tranny was too cold. I use 0W30 oil for winter, and engine fired after fires rotate of starter. May be the better way is to use 180 Amp*h battery (I have 180 amp alternator)?
can you keep battery in house at night to keep warm?
on November hunting trip to Alaska, the guide packed the boat start battery into cabin and set by wood stove each night to keep warm
i've also seen guys set up a propane catalytic heater under front of rig and point heat up at engine and battery, only takes 30 minutes or so
Yes! It's only 1 way to save it. It was -32dgr C lust night, today is -15! Warmer! I want to make some snapshots of this Ice Age... I hope it will not be so cold a week late, may be more then +5dgr C... Winters here are not stabile...

The camera works in -32C weather? What brand is it? How can you take pictures when your eyes are frozen shut and your fingers become brittle?
I have built-in camera in my cellular phone (Nokia 1024x768, but I usually reduce resolution for web), but I usually take it in jacket pocket else battery goes out fast. What free fast internet photo-resourse can you advise me to use, because Russian photo-sites work slow if you try to acsess from the USA....

By the way! I have some problemes:
the first: oil pressure sensor does not work (I have adittional manometer and I can see oil pressure), and check oil light does not disapeare.
the second: door ajar blinks, when I drive, an I can hear periodical relay clicking
the third: sliding door sometimes does not unlock
CE light is on till motor warms up well. ECT and IAT are out of range! I never saw so low temperature here. -20 was the exteremest, but what is going on? I hope will survive!
Speaking as a Canuck who sees at least a few days of -40 every winter, a block heater is a must. Without it, any attempt to start will quickly drain your battery.
Even a warm battery will drain quickly when trying to crank an engine with molasses for oil.
I use special syntetic oils for winters (ELF 0w30). But i usually use warm battery and boosting battery from any big truck. But I know that I can damage a starter. Some drivers use fire to war oil pan up. This is a last resort. Old car can burn well! I will post a photo tommorow to let you see how not to do! Really extreme! Ok I have to drive home... see you tomorrow...
I am sorry to hear you have it so cold. I can relate to cold weather living here in eastern Canada but so far this year it has been really good - the colsdest being aprox. -16 c. I can relate to what you are saying when it gets really cold like -30c. When your truck seat is like sitting on a board and the door won't shut tight due to the weatherstrip being so stiff etc. Glad to hear it is warming up. Take care and stay warm.

I had that problem a while ago that the door ajar light and the interior lights came on.
I solved my problem by removing a relay/switch for the tailgate. The relay/switch is behind the driver side panel near the taillight. The tailgate will lock/unlock but it won't trigger the interior lights/door ajar light any more.
Sliding door is not completly closed, I can hear a noise. Lubricate in lock and rails is very cold anddoor does not close well. Sometimes I can not open it. Some my friends, driving Gaselles, Transits and Mercedeses tell that sliding door can not be problem-free in our climate and they advice me to bue a special kit for gate-type doors. But I want to have a sliding door. May be there is a way out: to lubricate a door and to ajust it, but its so cold, and I wait for good weather...
