I want to get a new 4 wheel drive van but can only find aftermarket installers why dont any comapanies make factory 4x4?
Lack of demand. The full size van market is geared to delievery vehicles, emergency vehicles, and "pimp" vans (conversion vans). In the case of the delivery vans and conversion upfitters, price is a major factor. In the case of the emergency vehicles, price of the chassis is also a concern butthe 4x4 equipment cuts into the payload. Check out Quigley Motor Company for quality 4x4 van conversions.
There is a local tavern that has a Econoline 4X4 van that has there logo on it looks pretty sweet. When I was looking for a truck a while back a local lot had a Chevy Astro 4X4 van which was different. I think that they are pretty cool but I would think that it would be really top heavy.
The only factory-new AWD vans I am aware of are the Toyota Sienna minivan and the GM Astro/Safari mid-size vans. What I would like is a 4x4 Dodge Sprinter, but I am not holding my breath.
