I have a 2001 Expedition with the 5.4 (39K miles) and am experiencing intermittent stumbling at idle. I purchased a code reader to check for any codes to at least diagnose something but the evaporative system monitor will never complete its cycle. As a result, I get "0" and the yellow light with EV flashing. I already changed the fuel filter and tried water removers additives and injector cleaners. I suspect it has something to do with emissions since the EV monitor won't complete a cycle. Any ideas, advice, or recommendations will be greatly appreciated? Thanks. JT
I have a 99 5.4 and had the same problem, no code and miss at idle. Talked with a friend and he showed me how to go deep into the scan tool to find which coil it was. You may need a scan tool vs reader. Hope this will help
I think the best is the NGS, but I use the Tech Force by otc it works quite well. If you get a tool I can guide you to the depths of your tool and tell you how to find the coil that is not working properly.
Thanks. The NGS and the Tech Force tools are a little too steep for me. I have an old 79 LTD I have been driving and restoring over the last 10 years and it is filled with old time technology like carburators, vacuum hoses, and stuff. All these new electronics and computers in cars is a little overwhelming. I have a autoshop for do-it-yourselfers I can go to and see if they have a scan tool like this. Maybe I will have some luck there. Thanks again for you help and advice.
