Ive heard most alot of the differances between the early 99 and late 99 psd, but what is the power differance? And potential? What I mean is, is the early 99 capible of close to the same power of a late 99 when chiped? If so what would limit me and how much?
I've got the early 99 and as I have heard their is about a 15hp difference in the two. A chip will give you much more than any stock truck, you'll like. Limitations on hp include heat and cost at the fuel stations.

Thanks, but what I am looking for somthing a little differant. I understand a chip will give you more power, Im not completly new to these trucks. What I am looking for is if you chip a early 99 and a late 99 how much of a differace will there be in power? Basicly what are the capibiltys of the two.
I am getting ready to purchase a DP Tuner chip. I have been talking to Jody and asked him the exact same question. He told me that the early 99 would probably be down by about 20 HP from a later version providing the HPOP is healthy with his 120 HP tune.

Thanks, is this due to the smaller injectors and turbo? Are there any things better about the early 99 than late 99?

The turbo on the early 99 is smaller, but spools faster and already has the wicked wheel installed from the factory, so it normally doesn't have surge issues like the later models have. My early 99 has 121,000 miles on the clock and I have had no issues with it except the transmission dumped at 84,000 miles. I had a bulletproof trans built and have been very happy since. I just changed the ball joints and changed brake pads (still had the original stuff). I still have the original rotors and wheel bearings, so the truck is doing well. I really don't see any downfall to the early 99 unless you are wanting to make big HP, but if that is the case, you would change the same things on a later model anyway.
I believe my truck is an early 99' according to build date, but acording to some of the things you guys (FTE site) are saying it is a 99.5'. Not sure what to think 'bout that but regardless would'nt trade it for anything!!
