i just picked up a set of 39.5x15x16.5 swampers and got them on my 79 f-250 I have no lift and thought people might be interested to know. i cut the fenders 2 inches all the way around and then folded over a 1/2 to 3/4 inch bead to stiffen the fenders and to keep them from cutting the tire if they ever did make contact. Went wheelin' a few days ago and experienced no contact with the sheet metal even at full flex. the only thing they touch is the body mount with wheels cranked and flexed to the max.
I know not having any lift isn't optimal but ya do what ya gotta do when you're cheap, besides the low center of gravity keeps your shorts cleaner just thought i'd tell yall in case anyone is considering something similar.
That's cool! I have been toying with the idea of 42s on my truck doing something similar. Kubota mentioned in another thread that his 44s hit the body mount until he moved the axle forward. I am hoping that I can cut away and run minimal lift to clear stuff like that. Post some pics soon

Of course the other disadvantage to doing this with stock suspension is that you don't have much flex, especially if you're using the stock negative arch front springs. But yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. You bringing it up for the mud bog on the 28th?

Well, at least it's not being pulled out of some cadilac ruts in field by a chevy. I disagree with the mud flaps front and back and the clearance rods on the front bumper. But I'm okay with the rest of the truck. I like the visor cause where I grew up those were cool. And as a little kid, I always wanted a triple double roll bar. If I'm not mistaken, someone took alot of time to roll those fender flairs out of the factory metal. As far as the paint, to each their own. And I would like a little more lift, but I like it. So I would have to say nay on the flamerific. JMO
That's Mark's truck and it's an old picture. He's got 12" lift now with 42's. That truck is bling to the max, I don't believe he wheels it, just likes driving a big truck down the road. As for mudflaps . . . well laws are not so kind in some states. I hate running mine but it's the only thing that keeps the local cops off my butt. So far I haven't had to put any on the front but I have a buddy who had to and he's got a little truck with 35's.
Hey Mitch, post up some pictures of your custom ride. Show Mark what a REAL macho truck looks like . . . do it do it . . . nevermind, I'll do it for you.
i'll post some pics when i get some and figure out how to. Mud bog? i'd love to! i'll assume you mean the st helens bog. so has anyone ever moved their body mounts back farther on the frame? I am thinking that with a little trimming on the body mount these will clear but i hope to go bigger some day (with at least 6 in of lift) anyone done 44s or bigger with minimal lift?

Yeah, I'm talking St Helens on the 28th. Several of us from the NW Chapter will be there so come post up if you'd like to join us. I think we'll meet for breakfast and then head up.
KubotaOrange is running 44's with 6" lift. Look at his galleries for pics and info. I've read about people moving body mounts back and I can't imagine it's that tough to do but I'd think you could just shave a good amount of it off the front for tire clearance.
with my 6" and 44's i wouldn't have been able to trim enough off the body mounts for them not to rub. i weighed my optioons and decided to go with rear springs up front, moved my front axle foward about 4 inches and allowed the tires to clear the body mounts and the firewall, plus it enabled me to have betetr angle son my front d-shaft, and a better approach angle
i know 78 buford on pirate(his names roy) is running 42's with about 2-3 inches of lift, he just moved his body mounts back...
I hear you on the laws brother! They really don't bother us about it down here. There's gobs of big trucks down here with no mud flaps. But if I took them off my dually.....They'ed be on me like a wet tee shirt, and that WOULD NOT be pretty cause I'm well lets say "well insulated". But anyway, that truck looks so much better with more lift. And Damn you guys for having a mud bog. Our nearest event is April when the 4wheel Jamboree comes to town. And I can't wait. Last year they wouldn't let me run because my truck isn't a street truck. It was their first year and they wanted to keep it safe. At least that's what they told me. So they had a bunch of street trucks hitting a wall of mud and no one came out. But my brother in law took home a second place trophy anyway. But I sure wish we could come play with yall, it always looks like so much fun in the pic. Later
i should have some pics in my gallery if it worked. it isn't a ramp jeep but it flexes pretty well, in my opinion anyway, it's not at maximum flex in the pics but thats as high as our rock pile goes
